Lead, Genome India Project

Dr. K. Thangaraj is the Director of CDFD and also the lead for the GenomeIndia project. His expertise lies in human origin, health, and disease. His research areas include understanding the complex origin and affinities of Indian populations, using the genomics variations of contemporary populations and ancient biological remains, and the impact of endogamy on health and disease of South Asians. From January 2020, he has been a part of the GenomeIndia project that aims to construct a comprehensive catalogue of genetic variations for India’s population that will better capture our unique diversity. This effort has the potential to revolutionise healthcare, empowering basic researchers and clinicians, leading to transformative precision interventions.
